let's talk about patio dreams
This post is sponsored by the fine folks at Wayfair who asked one simple question: tell us about your dream patio. All opinions in this post are my own. As if you had to ask.
Do you know who is in need of an outdoor space makeover? My mom.
Mom moved to Idaho from Louisiana two winters ago. The house she purchased had been sitting vacant for quite possibly forever, which meant that most of the backyard landscaping had gone to weed. We are talking nothing but dandelions and dirt. Not a single blade of grass. Mom has invested some serious energy getting her yard in shape. It is high time for her to enjoy the space that she’s worked so hard to clean up.
The good news is that the yard has some pretty nice landscaping to be recovered. The better news is that this landscaping includes a little paver patio just waiting to meet its Fairy Godmother.
I love it when I get to play the Fairy Godmother.
We won’t be changing a pumpkin into a coach, although Mom does have a table similar to this one that she would like to use in some way. A little paint and some chairs should do the trick. How about these classic French bistro chairs?
Yep. Now we are talking.
Removing that crumbling pile of a fire pit will create a perfect spot for Mom’s table and chairs on the northeast corner of the patio. And of course now that we have a place to eat, we will need something on which to cook. I feel a bit like the announcer on The Price Is Right. Step right up, Martha, because you've won a new grill!
This grill features…just kidding. I can’t really go there. Mom does need a grill, though, and I like the idea of something fairly light that she can move into the shed during the winter (read: snowy) months.
I don’t know about you, but I like to hang out by the grill master with a refreshment while the cooking is in process. Comfy chairs and a side table? I think yes.
I love these wicker (all-weather) rocking chairs. They are available in four colors - black, white, honey, and espresso. I'm partial to the black for some reason, but for Mom's patio, I think the honey would be the best color. Add a couple of cushions to these rockers and you have perfection.
Well, maybe not quite perfection. Because Mom really wants a swing in her backyard since she has no porch. We both love the look of a simple arbor, maybe something like this or like this. Either way, this classic porch swing will definitely fit the bill.
Let's put it all together, shall we? Add some pillows, some nice napkins, a side table and a bird house. Maybe some flowers and shade plants...
What do you think? Would you hang out on Mom's patio for dinner? I promise to let you cook.
Before you plan the meal, there is one other place that you might want to come sit. Mom's deck.
The deck is pretty cute already, but I couldn’t stop decorating with the patio. I had so much fun playing with Wayfair’s Idea Boards, that I designed a little something for Mom's deck as well.
Add a back to those built-in benches and give them some pillows. Throw down a neutral rug and a bright coffee table to create an outdoor living area. Complete the "room" with a couple of planters to close in the stairless side of the deck.
What do you think? I would definitely sit in both places. Let's hope Mom feels the same way.
