still framing (modern southern bungalow week 15)

Houston, we have a dining room!

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that we were waiting on approval from Historic so that framing of the dining room could be completed. Hallelujah! We finally got that approval last week (we started this part of the process in December) and the permits were issued yesterday. The framing is now up and windows ready to be installed. And you thought bloggers planned what they were going to write weeks in advance. See that tool in the bottom right corner? That belongs to the man just outside the frame putting up siding. You are getting real time information right here.

The doors into the mudroom and master bedroom have been installed, as have the windows in the master bedroom. The initial plumbing has been completed. There is a tub in the kids’ bath. There are valves in place for both showers and all the bathroom sinks. The wiring of lights and outlets is *this* close. There is still a little more work to do before dry wall can go up, but it is coming. Fingers crossed the drywall process will begin next week.

I've ordered tile for the master bathroom floor, walls, and the kitchen walls. I am SO EXCITED to see it in place. My daughter casually mentioned in the car yesterday that she didn't see what was so exciting about tile. Clearly, we are not related. Meanwhile, I've made sketches of the vanities for the master and kids' baths, and we are working on light fixtures to go in both spots.

I still need to find tile for the laundry room floor. Did I mention we will have an actual laundry room? I should not be excited about about a laundry room, I realize. Do you have any idea how much time I spend doing laundry? Of course you do. We're simpatico like that. Anyway my husband wants me to find the cheapest tile available for that room, but since I'm already using the cheapest tile available for my tile-bored daughter's shared bathroom, I need to find something else.

Can't do much better than 88 cents per square foot. And no, my daughter is not being punished with bad tile. It will look awesome when it is done. This tile is proof that good things can come in inexpensive packages. Don't believe me? Check out this shower surround

Next week, while the dry wall (hopefully) goes up, we will be working on the design for the kitchen cabinets. Get your suggestions and requests in now, please.
