one room challenge: reveal time! (fall 2020 week 6ish)
Well, here we are, Week 8 of the six-week One Room Challenge. We have made a lot of progress on the front half of our A-frame beach house. As a reminder, here is where we started…
Ok, to be fair, that’s where we started in August. This is where we actually started on October 8, the beginning of the Fall 2020 One Room Challenge…
In the meantime, we shuttered for several storms in the Gulf, updated the kids’ half of the bathroom, and had to replace our hot water heater, all the while working on the front half of the house for this edition of the One Room Challenge. And here is where we are now…
Let’s look at what we have done over the past six-ish weeks:
Replaced the missing flooring where the fireplace was;
Replaced the painted brown trim that covers the wood paneling seams with stained natural wood for a less racing stripe effect;
Painted the baseboard trim and doors deep blue (Seaworthy by Sherwin Williams);
Added lighting - pendant lights in the living and sitting areas, lamps in the entry and living area, and my husband’s decorative addition - a light up Sawtooth National Forest sign;
Created a drop zone by the front door (which cleared off the kitchen counter!);
Created a sitting area as an extension of the “master bedroom”;
Found and hung art;
Added shelves for books and photographs;
Added rugs to define each space.
Yes, there is still an exposed pipe and unfixed drywall in the corner where the fireplace used to be and yes, we have called about a zillion people to try to get someone with a big enough ladder to fix the roof so that we can fix the drywall. No luck there. For now, we are just pretending the pipe isn’t there and the ceiling is fixed. We also still want to paint the (brown) window wall and hang a fixture over the dining table. Two more jobs for a ladder we don’t have and don’t have a place to store. The down-side of 20’+ ceilings.
But on the positive side, moving things around allowed us to create a better flow, with more space for a dining table close to the kitchen, and a seating area with a view. Remember when the dining table was pushed up in the corner and the door opened right into the back of a chair?
I’m liking it much better in the center of the room.
I also still can’t believe I found the table on Facebook Marketplace. And love my orange Article chairs.
This sitting area really is my happy spot. Just pass me a cup of coffee and a book. Attila loves this spot almost as much as I do.
It’s been a whirlwind, but we are happy with the progress we’ve made on the house so far. Thanks for following along, and special thanks Linda of Calling It Home for creating the One Room Challenge and to Better Homes and Gardens for sponsoring this round.
