Off the menu: mini candy cane pizzas

Do you know how hard it is to find an easy, non-sweet idea for a school holiday party snack? Pinterest is full of snap pea trees and banana snowmen, all of which are very cute, but not easy to transport and serve to 15 preschoolers.

Fortunately, my son said he wanted pizza for the school party. While this narrowed the field considerably, look at all the ways that you can make a Christmas tree out of pizza! Just one problem. My little kids won’t eat colored peppers or olives. Oh. And one other thing. I didn’t want to take the time to make crust. And so we found a winner. The English muffin pizza.

Mind you, we were back to the olives. And I didn’t have a tree cookie cutter that would fit on an English muffin. But I did have a candy cane cookie cutter and my kids happen to love candy canes. They also love pepperoni, which is conveniently quite similar in color to candy cane stripes. Winner!

This is how I found myself cutting candy cane shapes out of cheese and pepperoni into strips at 6 a.m.

Seriously though, this was very easy and even the older kids thought it was cool. I think they might have been a little bummed that I hadn’t made enough for their lunches. We did chop up the extra cheese and pepperoni to make mini pita pizzas for their lunches, so not all was lost.

If you have a go-to, non-sweet party snack, I’d love to hear about it!
