Every time I throw a party, there is at least one point in the preparation stage, typically two or three days before the party, when I think to myself that I must by absolutely crazy to be doing whatever it is I am doing at that very moment. Ok, I may have been feeling a bit guilty about this as I dropped them off at school and may have ordered balloons and gone with two cakes (ok, one cake and cupcakes) and figured out a way to hang a banner and capes outside to make their party more official.

We are not talking Texas sheet cake here. The recipe calls for a 9”x13” pan. I used an 8” square and 8” round for mine with the intention of freezing one for later before frosting. Gus stayed home from school on Wednesday with a (conveniently temporary) fever. After cartoons, breakfast with dad, hot cocoa with mom, a little craft store shopping, errands, and some coloring, Gus decided he wanted to “make a project” with the Kitchen-Aid mixer. We searched for recipes together and he picked out peanut butter cookies.
