on summer lists and slowing down

We started tennis lessons last Friday. I wasn’t sure that I even wanted to go because my husband was still out of town and we were supposed to play together. But I did go and I’m really glad I did. Not only did I get help with every stroke (holy moly, my serve is horrible) and work muscles that I didn’t know I had, but I heard something that I desperately needed to hear. You know how sometimes a message is delivered simply in one context but the message actually applies to a far wider area then intended? This was one of those moments.

the more things change...

On Friday night, I found myself attending twelve mini parties, each with its own theme. There was a carnival, a gem workshop, a secret garden…and lots of women dressed in sequins and tutus. I think it is pretty obvious at this point that parties are not exactly in (or frankly anywhere near) my comfort zone. But I was curious enough about how the mini-parties worked and really wanted to see the décor, so I sucked it up, sucked on a dress and went. And it was fun. What’s not fun about a party where there is a table full of glue guns and gems and hairbands and they want you to make whatever you can imagine? What’s not fun about a Ryan Gosling kissing booth?
